The annual event Members Night and Christmas Party of the Sinhalese Cultural Forum was held on 29th of November 2014 at Don Moore Community Centre.

It was a full house event. Attendees said this year the hall arrangements were exceptionally well organised and hall decorations were very attractive. The present committee has taken special care to give a new look to each item presented.
The event started with Father Chrishantha’s Christmas message. It was followed by Christmas Carols by well dressed Sinhala School Students and adults and then a nativity play performed by Sinhala school children. All presented items were well trained, well organised and extremely enjoyable. Kids were seen with faces painted and enjoyed their evening listening to Christmas Carols.  The audience was entertained by Ms Shehara Wijayapala’s beautiful dance.

The president of the SCF Indu Prematillake welcomed the audience and thanked all in the committee and the friends of SCF for their hard work to organise this event.

This year past Presidents and well wishers of the SCF lavishly donated more than twenty presents for the raffle draw. For this reason, this time more people were seen carrying gift boxes and wine bottles to their cars at the event’s conclusion.

The launch of the new look ‘Sinhala Magazine’ was a special event of the evening. The first magazine was presented to SCF President Indu Prematillake by the Media Vice President Malee Dissanayake. The second book was presented to the first editor of ‘Sinhala’ magazine, Kithsiri Karunaratne by the present editor Saman Dissanayake. The third book was presented to Dr Don Wickrama, past president and one of the ex-editors of SCF.

With the arrival of Santa Claus the hall was filled with the laughter of the children and all kids received presents from Santa.

The audience had a delicious dinner while listening to the lovely music provided by DJ Shehan. ‘Delicious.... delicious...’ was a word heard at almost all tables.

This time there was a special raffle draw for the kids who attended the event and for the child who sold most raffle tickets. About twenty prizes were drawn in raffle for the adults. The majority of the gifts were donated by past presidents of SCF.

Chandrani Buddhipala was the main organiser of the event. Jayamalie Tillekaratne and Chaminda Dias supported her. Roshan Sirinivasa (VP Education) coordinated Sinhala School events with the help of Niluki Gunaratne, Mihiri Fernando and Dr Sugeesh Pathirana. Contribution from Tharuna Youth Group was coordinated by Youth Vice President Shehara Wijayapala. The launch of Sinhala magazine and Raffle draw was coordinated by Media VP Malee Dissanayake. The delicious food was provided by Sam Trek and Sampath Jayaweera with committee members helping to serve the food. Hall arrangements and stage management was done by Chinthaka Mendis and committee members.
The MC of the event is Nishantha Jayakodi who conducted the event most commendably.

In conclusion the event was a great success, bringing forth both the spirit and festivities of the Christmas season and providing a well deserved night of relaxation and fun for our valued SCF members and well wishers. May the future events of this committee be just as enjoyable as the Members’ Night and Christmas Party of 2014 was.
